WoW Forever: spell downranking has been heavily nerfed
In a recent WoW Forever beta build, Blizzard has sharply weakened downranking, the habit casters and healers have of using a low rank of a spell. A spell rank far below your level now benefits less from your spell damage and healing, and is less likely to trigger your class abilities and talents. The developers' example: a rank 1 Frostbolt at level 60 now has no chance to trigger Frostbite.
What it means for you
- Healers: dropping a rank to avoid overhealing and save mana is less attractive, since bonus healing is reduced.
- Mages: you must choose between a quick slow and a spell that can trigger Frostbite, no longer both at once.
- Procs: effects like Omen of Clarity also fire less often on a very low rank.
