WoW Forever: Alterac Valley honor goes down, other battlegrounds go up

By BrokenMeta.gg ·

On the official WoW Forever podcast, developers said they are adjusting the Honor earned in battlegrounds. Alterac Valley becomes somewhat less lucrative, while Warsong, Arathi Basin and Darkspear Islands become a lot more so. The goal: break the habit of queuing Alterac over and over to climb the PvP ranks, even losing on purpose to go faster.

The problem: Alterac spam

In classic versions, the best way to earn Honor and climb ranks is to requeue Alterac Valley: both sides rush to kill the enemy leader as fast as possible while taking 2 to 4 towers on the way. It got so bad that some players lose on purpose, because it is faster than fighting.

What Blizzard changes in WoW Forever

  • NERF Alterac Valley: Honor is reduced, moderately according to the developers ("a little less lucrative").
  • UP Warsong, Arathi Basin, Darkspear Islands: Honor is greatly increased. Developer Tim Jones wants time spent there to feel worth it, and bouncing between them to feel okay.
  • No numbers yet: no exact rates were given, so watch the beta notes.
  • Precedent: Burning Crusade Anniversary got a similar adjustment, with more Honor in non-Alterac battlegrounds and much more for player kills.

What it means for your PvP rank climb

  • Mix your battlegrounds: alternating should pay at least as well as chaining Alterac, so you can play what you enjoy.
  • Short Warsong and Arathi games become attractive for Honor per hour.
  • Losing Alterac on purpose should lose its appeal, which makes games more honest.
  • Compare with the honor rank progression in our dedicated brief before planning your climb.

Frequently asked questions

Is Honor changing in WoW Forever?

Yes: the developers lower Alterac Valley Honor a little and raise it a lot in Warsong, Arathi Basin and Darkspear Islands, without giving exact numbers.

Why is Blizzard lowering Alterac Honor?

To break the "AV spam", where players requeue Alterac in a loop and even lose on purpose, because it is the fastest way to rank up.
